Boost in Automation Unlocks $2M in Cost Savings for Global Health Insurer

A global leader in the healthcare space, the client offers managed care products and services to individuals and communities across the world. As part of its digital transformation, the organization sought to streamline its claims processing systems, improve regulatory compliance, and elevate testing efficiency. However, they were constrained by fragmented quality engineering (QE) efforts, outdated processes, and high operational overhead. Initially, automation penetration stood at just 5%, making testing highly manual and error-prone. Less than 5% data coverage in key areas limited test reliability, and the lack of unified QE efforts across programs led to redundancies. Moreover, the organization needed to align with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations, which added urgency to modernize claims infrastructure.
Ascendion worked closely with the client to increase automation penetration from 5% to 79%, reducing manual effort and improving consistency. A pivotal step was the implementation of TOSCA DI in the EIM/EDAS environment, which enabled 100% data coverage—ensuring end-to-end accuracy across test cycles.
To meet CMS mandates, we modernized the client’s claims processing systems and implemented robust interoperability frameworks. This included the consolidation of A&G functions and deployment of NextGen pricing solutions to support scalable, regulation-compliant claims management.
We broadened QE initiatives into new domains such as IVR testing, disaster recovery, customer communication architecture (CCA), and end-to-end (ETE) testing. Efficiency was further enhanced through cost optimization levers—higher offshoring, test automation, role rationalization, and a shift-left QE strategy that brought testing earlier into the development lifecycle.
A robust engagement governance model was introduced to enable continuous collaboration, transparent communication, and agile response to change. This framework ensured that quality remained at the center of innovation throughout the transformation.
